Love this bike! I think it's the best higher-end entry level bike on the market for the money. I've taken it on some pretty technical single track rides now, and I'm loving it!! If you're considering getting into mountain riding, and you want a solid bike to get you where you wanna go for a good 5 years.....this is the bike...

The foundation for this is firmly laid with an all-new 6061 T-6 Aluminum Trail frame sporting 4 Inch of travel via the RockShox Monarch R air rear shock (more on this later). The frame uses a machine formed top tube and a butted and formed down tube sharing tubing from our nicer Sortie series. It uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is built around an optimized single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there are few moving parts. It consists of a pivot just above the bottom bracket, slightly up on the down tube and a single swingarm to the rear axle. Being that the rear triangle directly attaches to the rear shock, the shock has a more linear spring rate and offers good small bump compliance. Larger wheels are not the only improvement made to the 2013 Diamondback Recoil Pro 29. We've added a RockShox Monarch R air rear shock to compliment the Rock Shox Recon Silver 29 fork. This fork features rebound dampening adjust and a turnkey lock out. The lockout allows the rider to limit the travel to enhance your climbing experience. Diamondback Recoil Pro 29er Owners Assessment
The Recoil Pro 29er is smooth, solid, quiet, and comfortable. It shifts crisply, brakes precisley, rolls effortlessly, and glides over the rocks and uneven terrain with the 29" wheels and Rock Shox Suspension. I was concerned about the seat and how comfortable that was going to be. I was again, pleasantly surprised! This bike is an excellent "bang for the buck" spent. For those people who demand quality and don't have a huge budget, this is a great bike for you. I am one well satisfied owner!

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like...
Unfortunately I can't. I am sure this will be an excellent bike when I receive all the parts necessary to put it together; but at the moment the threaded post and nut that holds the front wheel onto the fork is MIA. The packaging is very poor and this is probably the reason the part came loose and fell out of one of the box handle holes or something. I paid the extra money for Saturday shipping, which I did receive on Saturday, but now I have an incomplete bike, sitting upside down in my living room (looking quite amazing though) but missing the front wheel on this beautiful Sunday morning; I really was looking forward to taking it out for a spin...

I will update and give this product more stars when I have the quick release skewer that holds the front wheel on. Until that happens, I have to give this product one star.

I just got off the phone with Diamondback and they were extremely helpful, I was told they would be shipping...

The Knuckle Box, or bell crank, is the core of our single-pivot four-bar suspension platform. Optimally placed pivots equate to a low leverage ratio, and ultimately to superior pedaling efficiency and small-bump compliance. Best full suspension for price.
Gave it five, Im about `5 8 1/2 weigh 210 lb got me a 17in. medium. Took it for a ride on some trails and man, road smooth,and fast, kept up with the more expensive MTBs . Only problem were the pedals its comes with, a little to small.The best thing about this bike, is the suspension,,, work like a champ! I recommend this bike , to anybody looking for a good MTB , but is on a budget.

A few bike issues, but DB coming through to get issues resolved!
I had written a long review about some issues I had with the bike. I said I would send in an update after I spoke to DB today.

Here is the quick recap of my first review:

1) DB could do a better job packaging by adding some sort of cushioning packaging material. May be the cause of the wheel issues below.
2) My front wheel was very untrue
3) My back wheel was slightly untrue (to the point where if this had been the only issue I would have just lived with it)
4) I was shipped the wrong pedals (resin instead of the metal pedals spec'ed on the DB and Amazon website)

Update:

I just spoke to Jason at DB. He called a couple local dealers and got one to true up the wheels at no cost (to me anyway). I'm really happy about this. I was was hoping I wouldn't have to ship parts back and forth to get this issue resolved. I plan on taking it in this afternoon.

HUGE BANG FOR THE $$$!!!!!!!!!!!
After reading reviews for weeks on all the 29ers out there, i decided to give the Diamondback Overdrive V a shot. I am new to mountain biking. That being said, this bike is amazing. It feels very powerful. The upsized 29" wheels feel like they can take anything you throw at them. Assembly is extremely easy. I also love that Diamondback uses the same frame throughout the Overdrive line, so the pro model has the same frame as the V. I also love that even though the V comes with cantilever brakes, it has the mounts for disc brakes giving the option to upgrade later. Really the only drawback is that Diamondbacks warranty DOES NOT COVER any bike delivered to your home in a carton. To me, that's just not right. But, all in all, this bike is an absolute STEAL for the price. My recommendation is that if you are looking for a beginner to novice 29er, this is the bike to get. You just can not beat the quality of a Diamondback for this price.
Great Bike!!!
Got my 26" Schwinn mountain bike stolen and decided to go bigger. Well, bigger is better! My friends can't even keep up with me on the road with me using barely any effort at all. I can get to top speed and change the the gears very quickly! It is absolutely amazing. I would buy this one over and over again. After my friends tried this Diamandback with the 29" wheels, they are all convinced about upgrading there bikes. The components are great and the look is great. The only negative thing about the bike so far is the front forks are a little springy no matter how much i attempt to tighten them. I am 5'11, and I purchased the 20" version.

Nice Mountian Bike for the Money.
I bought the Mongoose Impasse because it fit my budget for a full suspension 29'er mountain bike. I felt the bike was a bit of a gamble, because detail specs and reviews are just not available. But I was feeling adventurous and ordered one.

First, the bike was rather poorly packed in the Mongoose factory box. No Styrofoam packing was in the box to protect delicate pieces like the rear derailleur, or the wheel hubs. The bike came partially assembled with the front wheel tie wrapped to the frame. Just a little bubble wrap, and a few plastic protectors for the hubs that were broken and laying in the bottom of the box. As a result, the rear derailleur and mounting point were badly bent in shipping by Fed Ex. So I removed the derailleur, straightened it out, and also straightened the mounting point (near the axle drop outs). Took about an hour to get the parts back in proper alignment.

My new mountain bike
I just recieved my new Mongoose Impasse 29" mountain bike.

I haven't riden it yet due to illnes but I'm anxious. It was easy to assemble for someone handy with a few tools. It required a metric wrench, metric hex "allen" wrench and a screwdriver.

There was no recomended rider height for this bike so I took a chance. If your jeans are over 32" long you'll be OK, I'm a little short but I'm keeping it. All the faux componants are there for a $1000+ bike and they look good.

I'm a little sensitive to false advertising so when I noticed the "ALUMINUM MONGOOSE" sticker attached to the "STEEL" rear suspension fork it set off my BS detector. The front fork is also steel which might be understandable for strength. The steel kickstand should have been aluminum even though it's not part of the frame. The seatpost,rims, stem and handlebars are aluminum. Overall my bike and I could stand to loose a few pounds but we'll work on that together. One of the plastic...
Worth the money, but needs tuning to ride nice.
Bike arrived ok. Not hard to assemble. First impression was it was so hard to peddle compared to my other bikes. Turns out the brakes needed adjustment so they were not dragging. That and a few more lbs in the tires makes it much easier to ride. But it is a little on the heavy side, specs list it as 46LBS, which is not bad considering it is a huge 29" bike with a bigger frame, longer fork, extra beefy reinforcements, etc. I enjoy riding it now. Going to get a handle bar water bottle mount.

Good Bike, Poor Seller...
I bought the bike in anticipation that it would be in the RED color that was specified. Instead, the package arrived and I was surprised to see a black frame inside. I thought to myself, hmm... strange. At that point, I put the bike together with no hassle really. (I am a bike mechanic, so this is second nature) The only problem was that the front derailler was a bit too small, but a little tweak to enlarge it and everything shifted well. I have to say that I hate Grip Shifters. Just dispise them. I got the bike for my dad and I had a few requirements: Disk Brakes, 29er mountain bike, Shocks, under $300. This fit the details and the price is right.

For my dad, it is enough to get by with for another 10 years. I personally own a recumbent trike (Catrike 700) and this is way lower in quality than my trike, but hey, it isn't the same by any means. The brakes are disks, but I'd rate them to be as strong as rim brakes, a bit spongey at times. I can't lock the rear wheel to skid...

The quality corresponds to price
The bike is +-ok, but quality of some parts isn't too high: the manufacture uses the cheapest bottom bracket, disk brakes and fork.
- the Zoom disk brakes was installed instead of Promax, and I have strong feeling that Promax should works better;
- the fork works like rigid one;
- the bottom bracket doesn't have enough oil and works very hard.

So, this is the good bike for beginner, who wants to test 29er. But I don't recommend to buy and use this Mongoose as real MTB.
Nice Bicycle
This is a very nice bicycle for the money. I would have given it a 5 star except for shipping damage. The box was dinged up from shipping and the parts were able to move around and the front wheel spokes became tangled on the pedal shaft. I had to work on it a bit to get the spoke off without damage. The reflector that was mounted in the spokes was broken adn had fallen off. I did not ask for a new one.

The assembly was quick and easy without reading the directions. After pumping air into the tires the bike was ready to ride. It was a gift for my rather tall 14 year ol, 6' 4" tall and he fit nicely onto the seat.

Very nice bike at a great price.
