Good Value
I purchased the Allen Deluxe 5-bike rack in November 2009. I spent about 15 hours researching bike racks on the Internet and at several retail outlets. I settled on the Allen after comparing features and value between five of the major competitors. I mounted the rack to a 2009 Honda Odyssey. I've used the hitch to carry two adult and two kids bikes for several local trips and one 200+ mile trip. The bikes loaded easily (even the bike used by my 4 year old). The couplings swivel, allowing small bikes to attach with out a crossbar. I added a few bungee cords for my own peace of mind on the longer trip and to reduce sway. The only flaw with the product thus far is that I was unable to put the pin back in the hole after I tilted the rack with the bikes attached. The weight of the bikes appeared to put too much downward pressure on the rack causing misalignment of the holes. A longer pin that could be manipulated better or a second person pushing up on the rack may help. The...

Our previous Allen bike rack lasted about 5 years so we had no hesitation buying another. We decided to replace it because it was getting rusty and some of the straps were broken and we were planning a very long drive for vacation. We chose this deluxe model instead of the premium model which is what we had previously. Both hold 5 bikes without a problem and there is no difference in the actual rack as far as I can see - they are excellent. However, I have found that was MUCH easier for me to manipulate the old premium model to raise it up and lower it down to open the back of our SUV. Right now, my husband can do it with the occasional help of a hammer, but I can't manage it at all. I definitely wish I had spent the extra money and bought the model we originally had. :( Don't make the same mistake!
Perfect bike rack for a big family
This is a great bike rack if you have a big family. We had it on the back of a 30' RV with all 5 bikes on it for 2 weeks and traveled almost 3,000 miles and it held up perfectly under that very rough ride! Easy to attach the rack to the vehicle and also easy to secure the bikes to the rack. Would recommend to anyone who needs to haul a lot of bikes.

Thule 2 Bike Rack
This product works well, but if you plan to keep your bikes secure you will have to make some changes. First of all, if you build it according to the manufacturer's instructions, your bikes can be stolen easily. This product offers ZERO security, making it useless if you plan to stop somewhere before you take the bikes off the rack. The pin is a joke, the system requires the user to literally bolt the rack to the hitch, which is totally impractical, furthermore anyone with a wrench can steal both your bikes and your bike rack. In order to secure the rack to the car, I drilled out the threads making the hole larger so it could accept a lockable pin which would secure the bike rack to our vehicle. Given the thickness of the metal, I had to invest in a $45 drill bit, making this bike rack much more expensive.

If security is not an issue for you, then by all means this bike rack will work for you, I don't think that the pin that holds the rack to the hitch will hold up, so...

This is a great bike rack for the weekend warrior
Read all the reviews and got this bike rack, we are going to use it on two different vehicles. The rack arrived in two days and was ready to go out of the box, followed the directions and attached to vehicle without any problems. Put the bikes on the rack and check to see what else I needed. The bikes did not move once attached, also the bikes have a heavier frame than racing bikes so they fit tighter to the rack. No problem. I purchased a locking pin for the receiver and a lock system for the bikes to lock to the rack, the few extra dollars for locks was to insure no theft on trips and make the vaction and fun time worry free. This is a great rack for those who don't want to spend a lot to get started. Excellent choice.
Horrible rack
This is a terrible rack. It does not hold the bikes on securely as the straps are weak. I've have several scary highway moments. Plus, it does not separate the bikes and scratches and dings your bikes. It is poorly designed. Additionally, you have to buy a locking hitch pin to make it secure. Do not buy it unless you want to ruin your bikes.

Fantastic rack
This is a very well-made rack that works beautifully. The bikes are super secure, no scratches on anything (car or bikes) it's easy to install and set up and the price is good (you can get it for ~$135). The powdercoated finish is a nice touch, too.

The hitch pin is the screw type so it's a slight pain but worth it for the secure, totally quiet ride.

The rack fits a 1.25" receiver and an adapter is included to fit a 2" but I have no experience with that as my receiver is a 1.25".

I'll never go back to a frame-mount rack. (Hey, that rhymes...)

2' receivers should avoid
The rack is decent. If I had a 1-1/4 receiver I might be thrilled, but the plastic adapter they provide for 2" hitches is a joke. Be prepared to try an find a suitable steel adapter for $20-$40 elsewhere if you use this rack because the provided plastic adapter is worthless. My rack sagged and drooped in the hitch before I even put the bikes on. I felt it necessary to use a ratchet strap attached to my pickup to support the weight of the rack and the bikes.
Better than the similar Swagman rack
The similar Swagman was OK, but had a few problems. After a year and a half we switched to this rack. Everything is more solid. The finish is better. The bikes are a little further from the car, which is nice. The square tube which goes into the hitch kicks upward, which prevents the grounding on driveways we would always get with the Swagman on our 1991 Miata.

Also, the wheel straps are extra security. We actually lost a bike off the back of the Swagman (not this rack). The top tube hook wasn't correctly ratcheted down, which can happen with tall bikes on these racks (see the reviews). Wheel straps like the one on this rack would have prevented that disaster. That said, the clamp bolts on this rack are quite secure, so it's probably safe enough to skip strapping the wheels down for short trips.

The price difference is currently about $30, but it's money well spent.

Oh so pleased...
After doing extensive price comparison and research, my husband and I settled on this rack for towing around our two mountain bikes. I tore open the box and within minutes before even reading instructions I was twisting and turning and figuring it out - if you take a long hard look at it, I think it's quite intuitive. With a quick look at the instructions to make sure I wasn't going to break it, I was ready to go try it out on my car - 2005 Ford Escape and my husband's car - 2005 Ford Focus ZX4 with a factory installed spoiler. I read on another website that this bike rack was compatable with cars with spoilers (stated: compatable with most factory installed spoilers). From tearing open the box to getting it set on a car took me less than ten minutes. No lie! The padding on this is nice where it contacts the car, the craddles for the bikes are nice and grippy and sturdy, the fold-flat design is wonderful and very easy to use, the set up is a breeze for one person and take-down...

Works well so far...
Great so far, I have had it for a few months and use it at least once a week. But I have only taken short trips, nothing over 30 miles or an hour drive time.

Plus:

No assembly required.

Easy to set up. After the initial setup and finding the optimal position for the bikes it now only takes me about 5 minutes to put the rack on the trunk and place the bikes on the rack. Takes even less time to take off rack and folds flat so can be stored in trunk, while not in use.

Compact but very sturdy, and good foam padding protects trunks well enough. No damage so far.

The straps that hold the bikes in place can be rotated to accommodate different bikes. Very versatile. The rack has held 2 medium sized full suspension bikes with no problems at all.

Best price I could find for a new 2-bike trunk rack that has individual straps for bikes.

Ordered the rack, got it, sturdy, took less than 10 minutes to install.
However, the width of the bars is not adjustable, so the rack is only good for larger bikes (above 17.5 inch). I have a Trek 7.3FX bike which fits on the rack, but my wife has a Trek 7100 which would not fit, no matter what. Also, the website doesn't mention the cars it will or will not fit, this information is available once you get the rack. There is a fit guide on the back of the box. So it fit my wife's Camry, but wouldn't fit my Celica. Would be nice to have this information BEFORE one orders. Had to return mine. 5 stars for Amazon though, they gave me a full refund.

Works, but scratched my bike
Well-built rack that fits well on my car (although not using the setting that the manual suggested). I used this to transport my Cannondale road bike across the country. Unfortunately, the plastic piece that straps onto the downtube to keep the bike from swaying put some serious scratches in my bike's paint, wearing it all the way to the shiny aluminum below. Pretty disappointing. If you use this rack, I suggest putting a small towel, like a washcloth, between the downtube and the stabilizer piece.

Good bike rack
This bike rack works very well. I have taken one bike over 1500 miles and it has not had any problems. I own a dodge caliber and it fits well. I've also used this rack on a dodge caravan.

A tip for getting the side/bottom straps tight: snug up the straps as much as you can, lean on the rack to make it go left, tighten up the left strap, lean on the rack ot make it go right, and tighten up the right strap.

I'd suggest getting a small bungy to attach the front wheel of your bike to the bike frame so it doesn't bump around. Also, when using the safety strap to tie the bike to the frame of the rack, make sure the pedal of the bike won't scratch your car.

I have no doubt this would hold two bikes, but I just haven't tried it.

I purchased this product without knowing anyone who had owned a bike carrier and figured I'd go with a product that I had seen in many variations of carriers. Figured all these people can't be wrong, right? Upon receiving the rack I installed it and it was very easy to do. Afterward I gave the routine check and noticed that the arms felt loose to me since they use push in button for the swivel feature that allows for more compact storage. The looseness concerned me but again, I had no idea how the competition matched up either so I gave it a shot. I mount up my 2 mountain bikes and strapped them down and the looseness was gone, the bikes had locked the arms in place. Here it is about a dozen trips later and the bike carrier is still working like a champ, I'm completely confident that the bikes aren't going anywhere. I don't have any scrapes or scratches on my trunk from the straps either, much to my relief considering my car is only 6months old. The swivel feature that had concerned...

Very nice rack.
I wanted a rack that could directly mount to my Toyota Sienna (2003) and my RAV4 (2006) factory racks- the large clamps on this unit allows for this and provide a solid, stable mount without additional hardware. I also wanted something that didn't require the removal of the front wheel, and this also fit the bill. I was a little skeptical at first because the main mount seems a bit flimsy, but when you lock it down, it works and my bikes remain motionless, even with my bikes which are all 61cm road bikes. The Thule locks are easy to install and provide a small level of protection for when you really need to leave your bike- as with any of the bike rack locks, I wouldn't leave an expensive bike unattended for too long because the locks probably wouldn't slow down a bike thief too much.

I'd definitely recommend these to anyone looking for a rack, especially for those with factory racks with crossbars that this unit will fit. It will save you about $300 in additional...

These bike racks are great. They're easy to install and use. We've used them on a rather regular basis.

My only caveat - don't buy them here! I had to return the 3 I bought from Amazon b/c they arrived in ripped up boxes (they're big boxes!). I called Thule for replacement parts, but Thule said no b/c Amazon was not an authorized dealer.

I found them elsewhere for about the same price and they shipped w/o any problems.

You'll like these racks. Simple but effective.

Great racks, easy to put on and take off. Great way to put up bikes without having to remove the front wheel. 4 stars only because 1) rough directions re: flipping the rack to a driver side mounting configuration, 2) was missing one little barrel nut with one of the racks when it arrived - Amazon couldn't help except telling me I could return the whole rack for a new one. Thule was great and helped me once I could contact them, but the process meant my wife and I were cramming one bike in the car while we waited for the spare part in the mail.

Awesome Bike Rack
I love this bike rack. It works perfectly with my 2" reciever. It was super easy to assemble for the first time and installs and comes back out in under a minute. It has two release handles. The first allows the arms that actually hold the bike up to tuck away when not in use and come up when needed. The second handle release down by the hitch allows the rack to lean away from the car giving me more then enough space to open my cargo area and either load or unload cargo. The rack itself has a nice heavy feel to it that makes you think that it's gonna last. I paid the premium for the Thule Lock Cylinders to give me a little piece of mind that when I come back out to my car that the bike rack is still going to be there.

Thule bike rack
Great hitch bike rack. Solid connection to my hitch does not move back and forth. The anti sway frame cradles are a plus as well as the release lever to gain entry into the cargo area.

I selected this bike rack due to its features and the well recognized Thule brand. The bike rack has so far served me very well, especially during a round trip 1500 mile road trip. There are a couple of annoyances, but none of these would keep me from purchasing this product in the future. First, the connection bolt for the hitch is sized for a 1-1/4" hitch vs. a 2" hitch. The result is that you cannot use an existing hitch lock for this product on a 2" hitch since the pass through hole is too small for the larger diameter hitch bolt. You will need to purchase the Thule special lock (STL2) for $45 if you want to lock your rack to the hitch. You can buy a hitch lock at an auto parts store for much less however, the STL2 has a special design to ensure a snug fit within the hitch. Second, I noticed that on long journeys, the left rubber frame mounting pad will drift forward on the arm bar until it rests against the vertical arm. This will ultimately require that I install some sort of...

At this point cables can be pulled out to the exact length needed for your vehicle configuration, and once hooks at the end of cables are in place, they are tightened using the side-by-side large and smaller dials at the side of the carrier. Although rigid, cables are padded, meaning they will not scratch vehicles. After the rack is mounted on a vehicle, loading bikes is easy. Get what you pay for
It's rare for me to pay for the premium version of an item. So when looking at bike racks for the hatchback I started looking at the lower cost versions. After reading the reviews on the different racks and looking at several of them in person, I had grave concerns about the different strap module with tubular frames holding up to the rigors of holding three bikes for a long distance trip.

We purchased this to carry three bikes, two lighter weight mountain bikes and a heavy BSO [Bike shaped Object - Just learned this one and had to use it :)] of my daughters. The cables give the added security I felt was needed for carrying the bikes.
The 9002 (3 bike) max. carrying capacity = 105lbs, and the three bikes BSO=36lbs., Wife=32lbs., and mine = 33lbs. almost maxed out 101lbs.

For the few short trips we have been on the rack has done great with the 2 mountain bikes. And everything went great with one short ride with all three.

Top Notch Trunk Rack
Best of the best. Locks to your car. Locks your bike to the rack. No straps to flap in the wind. Nice clean design makes for a removable carry system that isn't too hard on the eyes. Cables-rather than the ubiquitous fabric straps-discourage any schmuck with a pocket knife from swiping the rack or your bike. At ~$180 on Amazon you can't go wrong for the crem della crem of trunk mounts. The Yakima QuickBack has some nice features, but honestly pales in comparison in design, security, and set-up/take-down speed. If you're taking the time to actually read reviews on this rack, quit wasting your time and get it, you won't be disappointed.
My kind of bike rack.
The Thule 9002 Raceway Bike Trunk Mount carrier is the perfect solution for a secure bike rack without the ridiculous cost of a roof mounted rack. I use it on a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer GTS and a Toyota Sienna LE and have zero complaints. The cable straps hold it securely in place and the anti-sway supports keep the bikes firmly in position. Like all bike racks, I would not recommend this for a full suspension bike since it doesn't have the same shape of frame as other bikes. The only thing I would mention is that after a few miles of driving, remember to tighten the lower straps once more as the rack settles from the weight of the bikes (like all trunk mounted bike racks).

Mounting it to the vehicle is very easy and although the instructions give a good starting point for adjusting the rack, it is easy to make adjustments to fit different vehicles.

This Yakima double down hitch bike rack is excellent quality. It truly needs no tools to instal to your car's hitch. It locks so no one can steal it. If you lock your bikes then you can have peace of mind that your bikes won't be stolen either. It folds down very easily and smoothly to get into your car's hatch. The arms that carry the bikes fold down very easily to that the whole piece is tucked behind your car and won't give you or others any hard time parking or guessing how much room the hitch is sticking out. An extra bonus is that both tips have bottle opener features. I'm not a drinker, but, hey pretty cool. I am very pleased with this rack. It fits both my mountain bikes without scratching them. The rubber tethers are strong and really lock down bikes. I'm so glad I waited to get this rack instead of a much more expensive one being sold at my local bike shop.

Make life so much easier.
I've struggled with 4 different strap mounted bike racks before breaking down and buying this guy. It couldn't be easier to mount bikes. Before installing this rack, I timed how long it took to attach my old rack and mount 2 bicycles - 16 minutes. Then I timed the Yakima. 2.5 minutes! Great design. I did have to purchase and install a trailer hitch for my Prius to except the Yakima. This not a cheap solution for transporting bicycles on your car, but if you do it a lot, it's certainly worth every penny.
