Spike Claw does it for me!
Used on packed snow, hard ice and slushy snow/wet tarmac. I put one tyre on the front of a hard tail MTB and one tyre on the front of a rear wheel drive electric bike. Works much better than I expected. On ice it grips reliably safely if you go carefully, entirely useable where a normal tyre would be completely useless. On packed snow it grips very well indeed (if you go easy on ruts which can pull the front wheel left or right, just like a wet rutted mud trail) and on slush and wet tarmac it is nearly as good as an ordinary off road knobbly tyre on wet tarmac. I ran at 40 PSI on slush/wet tarmac and 32 PSI on the hard ice and on the packed snow. This tyre allowed me to cycle 16 miles to work and back when my wife could not even get the car up the first road due to ice. Tyre is expensive but it does the job, is not a gimmick and it is quite a buzz arriving at work when collegues in cars have given up. live in alaska they work great
we live in alaska and have plenty of snow all winter long and since we have a long winter thought i would give these a try. they are amazing and do the trick. lots of traction and dont slip at all. love them.
why didn't I get these years ago
I bicycle all year in Colorado and occasionally take a spill on the ice. These are great and grip well. They are the 120 stud style so there are no studs down the middle, just along the edges. This means they don't rattle on pavement but still grip well on ice when you start to slip. The picture is incorrect and shows the 240 stud style.

Trail King represents name well
Before I purchased this tire I ran the Mountain King on the front of my bike. Either of these tires is an awesome purchase. The trail king hooks up well in sandy, muddy, rocky...what ever you can throw at it. It is a great solid tire. Grips well in the corners. I added these tires at the beginning of the race season, however rain keeps messing things up. Will hopefully get a chance to run a race with this tire.

Big and grippy
These are big tires. Took them to Tahoe for some technical rides with a combination of hard rocks and loose dirt. The tires were outstanding. They really hooked up well on the loose dirt and held up great with a major beating on the rocks. I did have one pinch flat when running about 30 psi and dropping a couple of feet onto a sharp edge of granite at about 15 mph. No damage to the tire, just the hassle of replacing the tube while riders I've been passing catch up.

Two areas people skimp? Brakes and tires. Think about it people.

You expect to receive tires. These seem more than tires when you get them. I cant explain it, but it was like unboxing my bikes newest safety features. They look glorious. Very good looking tires.

Your tires are the only thing connecting you to the ground. Go ahead and upgrade your suspension all you want, if your tires are weak, you are exposing yourself to risk.

Overall, I believe these tires are a fabulous all mountain tire with competency in just about every area. Excellent climbers. I am running 2.4's front and rear on a custom hard tail that I rally up and down.

I am mostly so Utah but just finished northern Utah trails (rock on fine dust, lots of roots) 5 stars.

Conti Ultra Gatorskins can't be beat
There are a few critical pieces of the bike: those that touch the rider and those that touch the road. A catastrophic failure of a bicycle tire can spell serious trouble, especially for those of us who blast down hills, ride close to traffic, or just enjoy riding aggressively. I pedal year-round to and from work just over 18 miles per day on hilly terrain and mixing with traffic on a fixed gear. My bicycle *is* my car. I absolutely depend and put my life into my bike. The tires are arguably one of the most critical pieces that keep you upright and away from spilling on the pavement. For nearly 8 years I've put my money on these tires and I've never been disappointed. I change these tires out about every year to year and a half (I'm about 140lbs) which is when I usually get my first flat. Yep, *first* flat. These tires are bulletproof, yet are a fine balance between weight and flat-free performance. They are slightly heavier than race tires (I haven't weighed them side-by-side, but...

Great commuting tire until it failed.
I love and hate this tire. The love is because it's grippy even on wet roads. It has not allowed many flats. I had a few last season of commuting but I'm attributing it to crumby tubes. My current dislike is cheap Chinese tubes. The seams seem to fail after a mere 500 miles or so. The tread on this tire is very nice. I'm running 700x28 which keep my 220+lbs of commuting bike/gear/me from pinch flats on the railroad tracks and bridge joints.

The hate is that the sidewall failed without notice. As in with other tires, it's the tread that wears out and then you can see that's time for a new tire. Or the sidewall fibers start to break and you can see it's getting brittle. This tire exhibited none of those warning signs. From my photos you can see how much tread is left.

What happened on this tires last ride is that I had a car start to pull out into the street in front of me and I hit the brakes in a panic stop from 25mph+. (I had the right of way, but there is no...
Ultra Gatorskins Can't Be Beat
The Continental Ultra Gatorskins cannot be beat. I have gone through two set of these tires and am about to buy my third set. I have thousands of miles on these tires and have NEVER had a flat! I ride all kinds of roads. Just two days ago I was riding with a buddy who got a huge screw in his tire and a second flat from a metal wire all in one 150 mile ride. We rode the same roads and I had no problems at all. I cannot recommend this tire more highly. I am going to give the 25s a try this time after using 23 for the past three years.
