SPD compatible, nuke proof shoes
Best SPD downhill shoes Ive ever have the good fortune to come across.

A bit on the heavy side but Solid bomb proof construction.

I have used them for Short XC rides and have no complains. They are actually better than most xc shoes if the trail requires hiking.

Work well with flats but would recommend none spds if flats is your main thing.

Ordered my exact shoe sizes and they fit perfectly (i have wide feet).

Nice shoe..but
I got these after reading good reviews on forums, but after trying them they were just too stiff for my liking. They do have the mounts for riding clipless and are setup for riding on flats, but when I tried them with my bike the difference just wasn't great enough for me to make the switch. The shoes are very rigid and when I'm on the trails it just didn't work out well. Probably great for DH riders & BMX. FiveTen does make good shoes, but just wasn't for me.

Great shoe
I bought these shoes to compliment my Crank Brother Mallet pedals. I like to be able to ride clipped in or unclipped with confidence. Having both the SPD clips and a sticky rubber sole, these shoes can do it all. I had to replace the dome topped philip head screws that came with the shoes, with flat top allen screws. The dome tops interfered with the shoes clipping in to the pedals. After the exchange, all is good.

rugged, and hot
I'm somewhat new to mountainbiking and when it came time to buy a set of shoes, i didn't want spd-only, aggressive mountain bike shoes because I might want to continue on with platform pedals for a while. I also liked the idea of being able to hike around on rides and being able to walk around in my bike shoes if I was making a day of it. I purchased the maltese from amazon for around 120.00 with shipping and was very pleased with the construction and comfort of the shoe. I used them on a local downhill trail the first time out with platforms and was stoked because of the grip and power i was able to apply. The next ride I switched to my spd pedals and they worked well with the shimano trail design pedal and was able to clip in and out easily. The only reason I am giving these a 3 in overall as the same quality that makes them a tough shoe also makes them extremely hot when riding longer trails in the summer. They do not breath at all. There are no holes for ventilation on the shoe...
Awesomet SPD shoes!
These shoes are nice an stiff but definitely still sensitive enough to feel what's going on under foot. Plus, I love the fact that they don't look like your typical cycling shoes. They are really well made, super comfy (true to size) and I love the velcro strap. I have been wearing 5.10 climbing shoes for many years but this is my first pair of their MTB shoes. I should have known they would be the best. Definitely a great shoe.

AMAZING
Thes are very serious biking shoes. Not only are they super cool looking, they are touph, comfortable and stick to the pedals like none other. I am so glad I bought them. This is a shoe you will never wear out!

If you don't like cleats and clips get these shoes
I tried all kinds of pedals and shoes. I settled on clipless platform pedals but needed a good pair of shoes. A friend recommended 5 10 flat shoes. I purchased these and bingo, I have the perfect setup. The shoes are very well designed. The soles grip the pedal studs very well so there is no issue with your foot slipping around. The upper is well ventilated but at the same time doesn't leave you feet feeling cold going downhill. The tongue is well padded so that the laces can be pulled tight with no discomfort. They are also easy to walk around in, something you don't usuall get with bike shoes. Finally, they look really cool. Definitely a good buy.

Runs very, very small. But great shoes
They are great shoes. But the sizing chart is ridiculous. I wear a 10.5 US. I ordered a 11.5 US and it felt like a 9.5 narrow. Now I'm out $10 in shipping, even with Amazon prime to return them.

Bought for biking used for work
I bought these shoes to ride my MTB with flat pedals because many reviewed them as being super sticky. They are sticky but not close to the power I get from wearing SPD Clipless shoes and SPD pedals. I really like wearing these shoes. They are very comfortable, well made and look great. They were bought for biking but are used for work. If you ride with SPD pedals and enjoy the power stick with SPD shoes. If you ride with flat pedals and enjoy the freedom you can not go wrong with these shoes. They are solid and great for off the bike. If you buy them you will keep them.
Awsome shoes!!
I would recommend these shoes for any downhiller/freerider. Stick to the pedals like glue. You almost feel clipped in with these shoes. You have to actually pick your foot up off the pedal to reposition them. Sticks to the pedals over huge jumps, rock gardens, turns, and anything else like a pro. Must be why the pros use these shoes.

Super Sticky, Awesome Grip
Looking to try platform pedals (I normally used clipless), I picked the Freerider Scribble model because they were under $100/pair, and appearance-wise they matched my other casual shoes (a pair of DC skate shoes- I used to skate a long time ago!) so if I decided to pull the plug on the whole platform pedal experiment, I could still use the FiveTen's for daily casual. Walking around in the FiveTens when I'm out and about will look normal, compared to if I were to try to go casual with my mountain biking, SPD-equipped shoes.

When they arrived at my door, I tried them on for fitment. The FiveTen shoe sizing is about the same as with my Shimano shoes, but if I had to be critical the FiveTen's seem to be a tad tighter on the sides; this is most likely due to the fact that my Shimano SH-MT32L Mountain Bike Shoes have thinner sidewalls, where the FiveTen's have padded sides. Perfect shoe for flat pedals - and stylin'
Bought these after the soles on my Five Ten Impact Highs delaminated. I like these better for pump track and dirt jump type riding. The soles aren't quite as stiff as the Impacts so I can "feel" the bike better. The narrower foot bed and lack of side "grips" (on the Impacts the soles wrap up on each side of the instep) allows me to set my feet more quickly and accurately in the pedals. I ride Wellgo B-103 platform pedals and with the Five Tens I might as well be clipped in. Five Tens are just as good as their hype!

Sizing: For me, Five Tens run about 1/2 to a full size small compared to my other shoes. I have size 10 in both Impact and Freerider, but I wear a 9 1/2D in Lucchese boots, a 9 1/2D in Ariat boots, a 9D in Allen-Edmonds oxfords, 9D in Bally loafers, 9M in Bruno Magli loafers, 9 1/2D in Cole-Haan loafers (made in Italy), 9D in Cole-Haan oxfords (made in USA), 9D in Johnston & Murphy (made in Italy), and a 43 (Euro) in Scarpa. New Model, Please Ignore Earlier Reviews
These are the newer and improved model that fixed every single problem that the old model had. I have both. The reviews are outdated and you should not pay attention to what they say about the shoe size. The shoes are exactly to size. I am a 9.5 and got a 10 based on the reviews. It was a half a size too big. These are still fantastic shoes and the top of the line!
