Decent for the price.
I purchased this bike for my 5 year old daughter for Christmas. It is a nice looking little bike, and assembly was fairly easy, however it seems the overall quality of the bike is fair at best. I encountered one major problem when assembled ling it when I discovered the front fork that holds the front wheel was badly bent. This was not damage, it obviously came from the factory this way. We were forced to stick it in a vice and bend it back into shape in order to fit the front tire on. Other than this, there were no problems. It was a little scary doing this on Christmas eve and worrying we might not be able to put it together. Even with the problem we encountered, assembly did not take more than 30-45 minutes. For the price, it seems to be a decent little bike. My daughter loved it and has had no issues riding it. It seems to be a good size for her. She is about 43" tall and weighs about 50lbs. Should have listened to reviews
I should have listened to the reviews on this bike, but my daughter REALLY wanted a green one (but not a boys bike) so I took a chance. Well, the box it is shipped in is just that...a box. NO packaging at all between the bike and one layer of cardboard. The box was ripped open in spots, the back wheel was bent and scratched to the point that we had to wait to give it to her until we got a replacement wheel (good marks for the bike parts company listed on the manual, we received the new back wheel free of charge within 4 days of ordering it on their website).

As for the bike itself, it is also not that great quality (though from the reviews I wasn't expecting much) but my daughter LOVES it, was thrilled with the color and the (cheap) bag/bottle so I will give it 3 stars. I would expect more from Kawasaki but old companies just don't have the quality they used to. With the new back wheel it will serve it's purpose to help her learn and get her through the "crashing into...

Great bike for the price
Bike is well suited for girls 8+ years old. The bike uses alot of steel, so it is not very light, but I have a similar Diamondback bike of similar weight so I think it is typical for this price category.

I found the bike easy to assemble, but requires some minor tuning of brakes, etc to ensure proper function.

The bike is a very good value at this price.

Sweet!
Brought this for my 10 yr old as a Christmas gift. It was as easy as can be to put together. Adjusted the handle bars a little for her comfort, watched a YouTube video on how to shift properly and she was good to go. The only thing is you have to turn the wheel to the right so it doesn't fall or maybe change the kickstand. (the reason for 4 stars)

Great bike for a great price
Great bike. Only giving 4 stars because I had to take to a bike shop to get the brakes set properly. They were difficult to set without proper tools. Without that issue I would give 5 stars for the quality to price ratio.
Dissappointed
Wrong description....description says it has 4 pegs but it only comes with 2. When bike arrived box was damaged. Missing pieces for handbreak. Tires are not balanced (not trued, straight). It's not any better quality than a Walmart bike so just go to Walmart & buy a bike thats already put together and has all the parts.

Missing parts
I ordered this bike for my daugther as a Christmas present. Was concerned about the 'assembly required' but was ensured it would not be difficult (pedals, front tire, seat and handlebars).

The shipment did not come with the pedals or the nuts and bolts to attach the front wheel. Luckily we live in KC so it was too cold for a Christmas bike ride. I tried calling Schwinn today, but there offices are closed due to adverse weather. So I'll try back later.

The other issue I had was that the front brake assembly is messed up now as I was trying to get the front tire attached. A part of the brake assembly came loose and I haven't figured out how to adjust. The instruction manual has poor directions and it's difficult to see in the photos what adjustments to make.

So at this point, I can't tell if the bike is a quality product or not. Will try to do a follow up once the missing parts are sent out. For now, I'm giving this a 2 star rating.

fair price for bike
This bike is actually very easy to put together if you have the right tools. The only things that I had slight problems with were the seat, it isn't very comfortable. However, that can easily be replaced with a cushioned seat. And also that I am 5'8 and a 24 inch wheel is probably making the bike too short for me. BUT that was my mistake because I could have bought the 26 inch. So really just the seat. Other than that, the bike is nice and is a fair price for the product.

Buy a better bike - spend the money
This bicycle will require you to perform several maintenance repairs yourself, or take it to a bike shop. The wheels were obscenely out of alignment upon arrival. Plus the rear derailereur pulley was bent into the bike wheel. Huffy may put out good bicycles, but this is not one of them.

Nice Bike, Great Customer Service
This bike was bought for my 10 year old daughter. I put it together 4 days before Christmas and I had a hard time getting the seat to fit into the frame. The reason for the difficulty was because it had a metal spur inside the frame which I easily filed down but I damaged the post prior to filing it down. I emailed the manufacturer and asked for a replacement post. A customer service representative responded immediately notifying me that a replacement was " on its way". I received the new post two days later which I was really not expecting to get before Christmas. My daughter loves the bike, so far so good.

Daughter Loves It
The first thing that caught our eye with this bike is the beautiful color for our daughter who's sick of pink everything. She loves it! We also wanted a bike with gears, but she's having a hard time adjusting them. We read in some other reviews that that's kind of a common problem, but I think it will improve with age and practice. She's a short 9 1/2 year old, and this frame is the perfect size for her. We looked into getting a 24-inch bike, but she's just too small. (She's probably about 53 inches tall and still in size 7 pants, if that gives you an idea of her size.) Overall we're very happy with this bike and don't regret the purchase at all. My husband says it was fairly easy to put together, as well.

Excellent Value....daughter likes it too.
I received and assembled this bike today. Assembly was simple for me as I have a mini-repair shop in my garage. I even test rode this bike before giving it to my 8yr old. I'm a 190lb guy...and it even held my weight....very sturdy. Its blue with some pink details...something that my daughter likes....not sooooo pink. The free wheel is not as smooth, but Im guessing it just needs some oiling or WD40. The hand brakes are good...it just needed some adjustment. The change in gear is just like the ones on my bike. I have a few complaint. The seat....its a bit more padded than normal seats, but not enough in my opinion. I upgraded the seat to a gel-type seat for girls....and now, I don't plan to hear complaints that the seat is too hard. The paint chips due to shipping of the cranks of the pedals. All in all, its a great bike for the value.

You wouldn't normally think about buying a bicycle online, but in this case it's worth it. Prime shipped it free two day, and it arrived in excellent condition. It took me about 20min to put together. You will have to adjust the brakes a bit, no big deal. It comes with instructions. The bike is absolutely beautiful -- much nicer than the standard crap you see at Walmart or Sports Authority. Quality appears to be on par with the major brand names like Diamondback or Mongoose, maybe even slightly better. When you compare this to a specialized Hotrock, it's every bit as good. My older child had a Hotrock, I swore never to buy another expensive bike-store model for my kids. Stuff broke on it. There is a small part on the Candybike that looks vulnerable, the little plastic srew on the handbrake. This broke on my son's Hotrock and proved difficult to replace. So this bike, which costs HALF as much as the equivalent Specialized model has the same weakness. The tires are two-tone...

WTF
I bought this bike and only used it once or twice before the inner tubes of the wheels split open into two inch slits. Both wheels had the same problem, the holes were beyond repair. The pedals fell off in the middle of my ride, so the momentum of the pedals hit my ankle, bruising it badly. The gears can't be switched, either, even though it's a mountain bike. If I could get a refund, I would. Too bad I can't even do that. This brand new bike is even worse than the garbage I find on the streets.

Lots of features, but pricey and needed many adjustments
My daughter is petite; so, we got her this pricey 5-speed bike with 20-inch wheels for xmas 2008. Item arrived well-packaged but with a few friction marks. I had to install the front wheel, seat, pedals, water bottle cage, and handlebar. I broke them down to these steps.
1. Front wheel looked straight but the wheel did not spin freely. I had to regrease and repack the wheel bearings.
2. Handlebars installed easily. The cables and shifters are pre-installed; I just had to loosen the adjusting bolt and the handlebar slipped into place.
3. Pedals screwed in easily.
4. Seat had to be adjusted to correct angle. The bolts are hard to get to, but hopefully, you only need to do this once.
5. Water cage is flimsy and I hate where it goes 'cause the water bottle gets dirt and grime really fast.
6. Brakes. The V-brakes are strong but I had to adjust the front brakes. I've always found cantilever and V-brakes a clumsy burdensome ordeal. These were no...

Our daughter is also petit for a 10 year old and there are not many 20" bikes with gears to choose from.
The next size bike 24" is way too large for her.
My husband was able to put it together without any problems.
(There wasn't much to do - put on petals, handlebar, slip on gears)
As in the other review, the brake lever is much too far away from the
handbar than it should be. It is farther away than my adult bike.
We will probably see about getting the longer screws and see if we can
close this gap.
The chain rattles in the lowest gears (1 and 2).

wouldn't buy again
My daughter loves this bike. It was her first "mountain bike". The price was good and we like the look of it and we were happy not to get a brand that was too common. But we've had some issues with the brake cables. And she's had to learn to put the chain on herself, because she'll be riding and the bike will just come to a stop. She has to walk it to a safe place and then fix the chain. She's pretty independent for 9years old, but otherwise - I wouldn't recommend it.

The bike is a nice bike with 21 gears, pretty good for on + off road rideing. It's ok 4 kids around 10-12 or 13.It has a cool paint job and handeles amazingly.

Nice BUT.....
The brakes will make you crazy trying to adjust them correctly! It is otherwise a nice looking, well functioning bike.
Very disappointed
Very poor bike, I would avoid. This is one of those "If it looks too good to be true it probably is" items. We bought this bike because my son needed a bike for a couple of week, thought the price looked good for that. NOT SO! Within 1 week of light riding the brakes had gone bad, bearing had failed, and the front tire came bent to start with. Plus the bike is way too heavy for any kids to ride on anything but flat terrain. To fix all the issues would cost more than the bike cost new 1 week before.

Painful and expensive lesson, keep searching for others bikes so this doesn't happen to you.

Junk!
I bought this bike for my daughters 8th birthday. I have aways liked and respected the Diamondback name and thought this bike would be another quality product. I was very disapointed. The bike is very heavy. The front shock is a joke, it does not compress at all. The shifter and rear deraileur broke after only 6 weeks of very light use. I am very disapointed. I also contacted Diamondback about returning this bike and they sent me a few nice e-mails and promised to contact Amazon but were no help at all. I still have this bike, I would LOVE to ship it back for a refund. Very disapointed and let down. I have 3 children and I will never purchace a Diamondback product again and I will never buy another expensive item from Amazon again. If I had bought this from a local store Im sure I could have returned it, but now I'm stuck with a junk bike.

Gears are impossible to shift, shock is sized for a 200lb adult
I just purchased this bike for my 8 year old daughter. She is a tough little girl, with strong grip. However, she can only downshift (like going from 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd), but not up shift (like going 3rd to 2nd, or 2nd to 1st). I think the shifting could be easily fixed by using a different style shifter instead of the twist-grip.

Also - the front shock will only compress when I put all of my 180 lbs over the handle bars. What a JOKE!

Like the other review, it is heavy, but that doesn't bother me much. It is bullet-proof.

I'm attempting to return it - we'll see how far I get.
gear shifter will HAVE to be replaced for your kid to shift gears
Bought the 20" Tess for my 8 y/o daughter. The good news is that the frame is sturdy and well made (although somewhat heavy). It is a nice size with good tires. Plus she loves the purple color.
The bad news is that the gear shifter is impossible for a kid to shift. It is VERY tight. When we found this out about the first bike, we ordered a replacement only to find it was just as impossible to shift gears on the second bike as the first bike.

Upon inspection, it is clear to me that DiamondBack never intended (or cared) if the gear shifter would work. The way the shifting cable is routed, when it reaches the rear-derailleur, it will kink the cable and make it impossible to shift. Even after replacing the rear-derailleur with one that didn't stress the cable, the "twist style" gear shifter on the handlebars is very hard to turn. I am a grown man it is was difficult for me. There is no chance a little kid could twist the shifter.

Nice Bike - Bad Factory Packaging - Arrives Damaged
I would not recommend buying any Mongoose product, sight unseen, period. This is one of two different Mongoose bikes, purchased as a Christmas gifts, with both having the same issues. The bike arrived in the factory box, as Amazon indicates. Apparently, Mongoose has a rather amateurish concept of how to box anything so the contents don't shift around in transit, in this case, resulting in several scratches and paint chips in the brand new bike. Also, one of the ribbed grips was crushed/deformed due to the way it was strapped to the frame for shipping, and it is not rebounding back to the original shape. Nice Christmas gift for a grandchild, right? I contacted Mongoose "customer service" via their website e-mail link and fully explained the situation, requesting touch-up paint and a grip to just take care of the damage myself and avoid gift hassles. Their response? "Contact Amazon if there is shipping damage." I responded back that there was no "shipping damage" but internal...

Nice Bike - Parts broken in shipment
This is a good bike for the price. Easy to assemble. Good components. However, when the reflector is broken, the rim is bent, and a tire is mangled, it makes it much more expensive to replace the parts. Bought as a gift, I couldn't return it and get another in time. It was listed as the last one as well. So, perhaps buying items such as this that get shipped is not a great idea. On the plus side, Amazon refunded me $20 when they heard of the damage. That is so much more convenient and cost-effective for both parties. Thanks Amazon for having excellent customer service.
Sweet bike
This is a sweet bike as in it's all girl and it's a very nice bike. I'm so not handy, but I did manage to put it together myself in a couple of hours. I will say that the color is not pink as the picture indicates. It's purple with bright pink accents. My daughter is enjoying her new wheels very much. It does not come with a basket/pouch or anything, so we had to purchase a water bottle holder separately from the local bike shop. I also like the 18" size, which is hard to find, but ideal for a first bike.
