Biking on my back porch
I really love this product! My husband has been wanting to get in shape, but I don't like to bike in public, it makes me feel a little awkward. This trainer gave us everything we needed out of our exercise program. I get to exercise from the comfort of my back porch and he gets to bike. I would like to add a few words of warning however. Overall I love this product and the concept, but when choosing between stands you should keep 2 things in mind if selecting this model. Number 1, the resistance it offers is never going to be the actual strain you feel while riding uphill. You will definitely get a work out if you turn it up, but I was a little shocked that the max strength only fell at what I would consider a medium level of resistance, however I am sure your perception may differ based on practice and your bike's setting abilities. Number 2 the machine can get a bit loud, not jackhammer loud, but there is a consistent buzz as your back tire spins the resistance tube that is about...

  Fantastic ! - Better than expected
  I don't have any other comparison, since this is the first I have ever purchased, but I was pleasantly surprised when I received it just two days after I ordered with FREE shipping.
  
  The trainer itself is solid and works better than I could have hoped for, cost a lot less than buying an exercise bike.
  
  I am not a cyclist and bought this to simply turn a regular bike into an exercise bike.
  
  There was zero assembly required, just unfold it and place your bike in, super easy, when you want to ride the bike out on the street, it's free in less than 30 seconds.

  Just what I wanted.... but loud
  This is just what it should be, really, and maybe it deserves 5 stars for that. The instructions were confusing because there's an extra unexplained part, but I figured it out (you don't need the extra axle). I am not a serious biker; this is just to get some exercise w/o buying an expensive piece of equipment.
  
  What I'd totally forgotten about what the noise a bike trainer makes (and this is the main reason I'm posting, in case you've also forgotten or didn't know). Looking online just now, I've seen it likened to vacuum cleaning, and that's about right. I'm not sure that any other bike trainer would be better on this front... maybe the rim trainers are. (Note: see the other review that explains that if you get other tires for your bike the noise will not be an issue. Me, I am not "serious enough" to buy other tires, much less change them.)
  
  Bottom line: this is fine. If you can deal with the noise, get it.

  What I expected, only noisier...
  I was happy to find that there is no assembly required. It was very easy to set up. It works fine, and is a very sturdy and good-quality piece of equipment. No surprises... works as advertised.
The rollers were delivered by amazon in a timely manner. This is my first set of rollers, and I have never used a trainer, so I don't have other equipment to compare this too. I bought these to use during the winter, because I thought it would be more interesting than using a treadmill, and I would get to use my new road bike year around. I think the reviews are pretty accurate as to the quality of these rollers. Rollers are fairly expensive. Given the price point of the cycleops, I think these are an excellent value for someone who would like a folding set of rollers, or maybe a person who is a casual rider trying to get some spin time in during inclement weather (which happens to be about 1/2 of the year in the midwest, unfortunately). I was worried about them supporting my weight, as I am a larger guy, but they do a great job, and are smooth to ride on once you get the hang of it. If I was a serious rider, I would have probably chosen a more expensive set.

The Cycleops Rocks!
I was looking for an indoor trainer that would be simple to set up and use and the Cycleops is perfect. It needs very little space, takes no time at all to set up and you don't have to do anything to your bike to use it. It takes a little practice to get going but if you can ride a bike, you can ride rollers! I have mine set up between my bed and the wall so getting started is easier. The Cycleops is the best indoor fitness item I've ever purchased.
Great workout!
After the reading other reviews on trainers and rollers, I decided that the rollers would be more enjoyable to use. The rollers arrived assembled and easy to adjust to my bike. I started in a doorway with regular tennis shoes. The first 5 -10 minutes were scary. I thought there was no way I was going to be able to stay on. Then, I started to worry less about falling off and peddled faster and felt much more comfortable. After about 15 minutes I moved the rollers and bike into a hallway and used my cleats and had a great workout. I figure I would stay in the hallway one more time before I graduate to an open room. Build quality seems good and I expect long term reliability.

**ATTENTION**This trainer NOT a Magnet Resistance Trainer..!!
Hopefully nobody has made the mistake of buying this bike trainer under the assumption that it's a "Magnetic Resistance Trainer", as there are many look-alikes of this same model, and it is very lacking in it's description, to say the least. Make no mistake, this model is a "Wind Resistance Trainer" only(I assume that's what they're calling "Kinetic"?). If u look at the pic it clearly shows a circular fan, opposite the weighted flywheel on the roller assembly, at the botttom of the unit.
That's why it's cheaper than all the other bike trainers available here, obviously.
This trainer is little more than a stationary roller for your bike wheel, providing only the resistance of the weighted flywheel. It offers NO variable, or increasing resistance of any kind, and little if any, wind resistance with that mi-nute circular fan!

Does exactly what I needed!
After knee replacement surgery, I needed a way to bike. Avoiding having to purchase a stationary bike and utilize my mountain bike was the objective. This product did just that. Very sturdy, easy to assemble and easy to place and remove my bike!

Impressive trainer
I've been riding the Rock & Roll for several months now to supplement my road riding. I was a little hesitant about the rocking feature initially. As it turns out, the default stiffness setting doesn't move nearly as much as I was expecting. Of course, you can loosen the resistance for more motion, or really tighten it down for even less.

My main concern was longevity of my bike frame and I feel like having a little bit of give in the trainer will help prevent damage. I'm not small at 200lbs so a little give is a good thing.

The resistance unit itself is smooth and operates with a relatively little noise. Our house is very open and I ride directly below our bedroom. My wife has never been awakened by the trainer.

I chose to purchase the model with the additional flywheel. I use it when I'm doing consistent pace riding. If I want to do intervals I almost have to remove it to prevent tire slippage. Not a problem, since most people would prefer less...

Nice mat
I like the mat, seems very durable and of good quality; though it's a little pricey (that's why 4 stars instead of 5). I purchased this mat intending to use it on my hardwood floor to help dampen noise from the trainer|bike, but ended up placing the trainer in a room with a rug. I still use the mat in order to catch any oil or crud that may drip from my bike, but have found that the trainer doesn't stay flat on the rug -- it tends to slip a little bit and bunch up around the places where it contacts the trainer. This is not an issue while riding, but is a cosmetic thing. The trainer seems to be pushing and stretching the mat into the rug.

Durable and Useful
I debated between buying this mat with my bike trainer or using a cheaper yoga mat. I'm happy I went this route (even though it was more money), because its larger than a standard yoga mat and its much more durable. Its nice to use to protect the floor.

So quiet, I can hear my bike chain rolling louder than the trainer. The best way to get nowhere fast!
It's silent except for the sound of your tire rolling over it, and completely stable. There's really no need to buy the next more expensive one. I haven't felt the need for a mat. And the resistance truly is road like except without the bumps and traffic lights. It's a constant effort though, so you will get more of a work out in 45 minutes on the trainer than you would in double that time riding on the road.

You will want to accessorize however for a few reasons:

First of all, riding a trainer is the most boring thing ever. At the very least you will want to be listening to music, and ideally you will want to set up a TV to watch while you're putting in your time getting nowhere fast.

If you don't have water bottles and cages on your bike, this is the time to get them, and also a good way to practice drinking from them while riding.

You can stop looking !!
Ok... So I have been looking for over 2 weeks and contemplating whether or not to get this trainer or a less expensive one. Well, I figured from the reviews from the cheaper ones that the MAG is not that resistant and WIND is way to loud. Plus I read several reviews of those models that parts break. So, this is why I picked this model... Great reviews, no defects, quiet and resistant. My take on it? Excellent product and worth the extra cash. I am nothing like a pro but I do take 2-3 rides a week for about 25-45 miles each time. While the cooling temperature, the high winds and the worst drivers in the world sometimes it's nice to play it safe and ride indoors. So the product: Easy to set-up (less than 5 minutes), very common sense to hook your bike to it, quiet, very sturdy, great resistance. Today was my first ride on the trainer and a great work out. I rode for over an hour and got my heart rate up to 174 and still had two gears left.
Great Trainer
This Trainer is great. Relatively easy set up. Tremendous customer support when you call about anything that is unclear. The instructions are a bit weak for setting it up (hence the call to customer support). Once you get it set up it is wonderful. A truly tough workout, the free Chris Carmichael DVD helps you through your first workout and gives you ideas for setting up other workouts on your own. You need to get the riser block for the front wheel or it does not feel right. During my first 2 workouts on it I easily exceeded the Heart Rates I was getting in an organized Spinning Class. Feels rock solid.

Replaced an older Mag trainer with the Cycleops Wind Trainer for more consistent workout
I have an older mag trainer that I used to use for indoor workouts. I pulled it out this season to use, but became disappointed with the performance since I would have to get off the bike to adjust for more resistance. I did some shopping around for a replacement, decided on this one. It's well built and gives a great workout with progressive resistance. Now I don't need to get off the bike when I want to go harder, it can be done by pedaling faster and shifting gears. The progressive resistance is closely emulating what you'd feel on the road.

It's not as noisy as one reviewer states. Yes, it's noisier then a fluid trainer, but not much noisier then my old mag trainer. There was a strange noise when I first used the trainer, but that was overcome by tightening the bolt on the resistance unit's axle. Smooth and not as loud as you'd think!
I bought this wind trainer because I could not validate purchasing the higher end fluid trainer. After all I am not a pro - I just wanted a way to train and keep moving on the weekdays. A mag trainer with adjustable resistance was completely out of the question as I did not want noticeably incremental changes in resistance. It is not natural, and, for me, discourages riding "harder".

After careful consideration and reading reviews here and on other sites, I chose this wind trainer.

What it is:
Using the same stand as the higher end CycleOps fluid trainer, this machine uses a simple, but smooth fan to create resistance. The faster your spin your wheels, the more resistance you get. You can shift to a higher gear to get more resistance - the same concept as the fluid trainer.

Loudness:
I read that this trainer was loud, and it was a bit of concern, but I took my chances. As always, the "loudest" reviews are from buyers who are either so...
Very nice trainer
So far I have been very satisfied with this trainer, the build quality is excellent.... It has a very fluid and rhythmic feel to in comparison to some "choppy" models I tried. One of the reviews stated about the noise..... I wanted to clear that up a bit. It does put out a fair amount of sound but it is not some ear piercing squeak or some defect. It is a "wind" sound, much like sitting next to a fan. If you were in a small room I can see where it would be a bit much. I find it fine in my garage and even a little motivating since it only gets louder the harder you train ;-)

Inertia is important
A trainer is better if it closely replicates an actual cycling experience. Hence, the graduating complexity and cost of fan, magnetic and fluid drive trainers. The more you pay, the closer the experience is to replicating the inertia of what happens in a real ride. You want the trainer to feel as if it takes more exertion to get up to speed, but also want it to "coast", when you stop pedaling. This trainer is a mag drive, and does a good overall job, but doesn't coast well. I find myself pedaling all the time, as if I were hill climbing. That's OK for getting exercise, but not good for getting in a sustained ride. Those brief periods of coasting help the muscles recover and allow longer ride time. I could stop entirely for short periods, but that's not how I want to ride. I do use the gears to vary pedaling speed, but can't use the high gear and standing to vary the working muscles enough on the trainer; the resistance doesn't go high enough for that. I haven't tried a fluid...

Good workout
I've owned this for about two weeks, and have used it several times already. Assembly took about 20 minutes and was very easy. In the two weeks I've had this, I agree that using it is noisy, but I believe it is due to the tread on my mountain bike tire. I'm going to try switching to a smoother road tread to see if the noise decreases. Either way, I'm very happy to have bought this as I've already lost weight and am able to ride for a longer time at a higher speed than I was with the first few uses.

I recommend buying a block for the front wheel, too. Not for balance, but to level the height of the front wheel with that of the back wheel.
Smooth but loud, and with limited resistance
I have owned several mag trainers over the last decade and I have no doubt that this is the best one on the market as far as sturdiness, but it is not without its limitations. Briefly, like all mag trainers, it is still loud and it doesn't generate a lot of resistance. I have never used a fluid trainer before and can't afford one, but if it actually is significantly quieter and you have the money I'd recommend it, particularly if you live in an apartment or shared dwelling.

Here are the reasons why it compares favorably with all the other mag trainers I've owned: (1) It was easy to set up. I have read some reviews to the contrary and I simply can't agree. I think it took me all of 10 minutes. I suppose if you have never used one before and seen how the resistance unit is meant to fit and function, it could be less intuitive. (2) It feels sturdy, with no noticeable rocking back and forth, even when standing and/or applying quite a bit of force. Unlike some trainers...

When the weather is all wrong , This Baby Is Alright!
I purchased the Kurt Kenetic two months ago, and am thrilled with its performance and quality. If you are considering purchasing a trainer, fluid trainers are the way to go. Basically, there are four major types of trainers: Magnetic,Wind, Rim Driven, and Fluid. The later is the best, hands down! Fluid resistance trainers are more quiet, smoother and more realistic than any of the others mentioned. The only drawback to the fluid trainer is that over time they can leak resistance fluid. There are three companies that have solutions to this drawback. I highly recommend that you research all three and test them out where possible. A good review page is Roadbikereview.com . The CycleOps Fluid 2 is ultra smooth and quiet. They have a limmited warranty on thier products, but are known for standing behind their trainers for life, and will fix any issues probably for life! The One Up Trainer has all the advantages of a fluid trainer, but uses no fluid in its designe, it is made in America...

The best trainer you can buy
I have had several other trainers of this type that were used by my son and myself for training on Road, Mountain, and Recumbent. This one is the best. From the moment you heft it out of the shipping carton until you set it up you know this is quality and not like all the others. It is BUILT strong.

I am 6'3" and 215 lbs. This trainer acts like I'm not there. The greatest feature is the quietness with which it operates. You can watch the Spinerval DVD or TV and not have to be blasted off the seat. Bike mounting on the trainer is straight and very simple while being very secure. I love it and use it regularly with great results.
Kurt Kinetic has the best fluid trainer
I've had my Kurt Kinetic Road Machine since 2001 and it has never leaked. I put an average of 1200 miles per winter on it and it's always been reliable, relatively quiet, and has a better feel than any non-fluid trainer. The Road Machine Pro has an even heavier flywheel so offers an even better feel, I'd say. The best thing you could do is read the reviews on other sites. Try a couple out at a local bike shop and then buy the best. After all my initial reviews and ongoing knowledge of bike trainers, Kurt was and still is the best.

Solid for basic use
I think the comment about the lack of resistance modification means someone didnt read the manual well enough. If your tire isnt flush against the drum the resistance knob doesnt do anything.
This is a solid trainer for those who arent looking for any bells or whistles or dont want to commit hundreds of dollars to a trainer.
Im using it for Triathlon training, it fits well in our tiny 1 bedroom.

mag trainer trial
i recieved the mag trainer about a month ago, the set up took 5 minutes , and i have a specialized road bike that i use on it. so far so good the adjustments
for tension are good , but i happened to strip a bolt on the tensioner, called the vendor to get replacement j-bolt. while they were tough to work with i got amazon to pay for the bad bolt all should go well now . all in all great value for price.

A Durable Machine Where It Matters Most
This bicycle trainer will not disappoint you, especially for the price. Customer service is very reasonable to work with should you have any kind of issue. Once I set up my mountain bike to this machine, I was impressed at its strength considering its size. Also, as I am currently weighing at 200 lbs., the fact that it locks the bike in place and remains solid when adding my weight to it, I have come to trust this device without question. I'm glad I chose this machine during these very tight economic times.
Why Pay More For A Bike Trainer?
I borrowed a friend's $350.00 (lime green) Kinetic trainer before purchasing this one. The Kinetic trainer was indeed made of heavier duty materials and almost entirely constructed of metal. However, I still did not see an almost $300.00 dollar difference in price that I could justify. The stability of the two trainers seemed almost identical. This trainer actually has a feature that the Kinetic did not have with the remote handlebar tension control.

The trainer I received was slightly different from the photo on Amazon. Mine has two identical molded plastic handles like the handle of the right in the photo instead of the lever on the left side that is shown. This did not seem to affect the functionality of the trainer but I do wonder if the lever would have given it a quick release on the left side like the Kinetic. This is still not a three hundred dollar difference. Works great and I have already recommended it to a friend.
