the best helmet for me
This is the best helmet I ever had for my type of riding (which is mostly going down, but I have to earn these descents). The fitting of this helmet is so good that it feels like it was molded on my head. I also think that this is a great looking helmet - it not like most other bike helmet that look like a mushroom - it has a low profile and curdle most of the head, given you a great protection. Also this seems like a true mountain bike helmet and not like something adopted from road biking. Having said that, I have to point its few limitations - it is poorly ventilated, its one of those helmet that you must try before you buy as the retention system is doing very little (it fits just like a full face helmet - its either sits good on your head or it not, there is no in-between for this one). Also it does feel cheaper than my previous helmet (the Xen) with must less padding and the straps feel very thin (it is however lighter helmet than the Xen). Another plus for this one is the...

size: small wrap-around design results in a nice low profile.
weight: light as giro's higher end helmets. you lose the sensation of having it on.
strap: well positioned and unobtrusive.

Giro Feature Mountain Bike Helmet
Wasnt sure at first when I ordered this helmet.. The biggest size it comes in is a large, (23" - 24 1/2") so I had my wife measure my big melon! It measured out to 23 1/4 so I thought what the heck... All and every mountain bike helmet I tried on in the stores just didnt fit or look right. I mean there was no way I was whearing those lame looking mushroom tip helmets!!! After I recieved my Giro in the mail, I ripped open the box like a kid on christmas day and tried it on and it was perfect! By far the best looking helmet and a lot more protection for my big dome! I recomend this helmet to anyone and it is light weight fast shipping and the 59.00 dollar price was just right! Just what I was looking for and for once something fit!

Tried at local bike shop for proper fit, bought at Amazon
Easy dial to snug fit around my head. Some hard spots on my head but it did come with additional stick on padding. I tried this helmet at local bike shop like the fit on my melon so I bought it online. So far satisfied, will take out today in the 100 degree weather to determine it breath-ability. Had a Giro for a spare for friends who would Mt. Bike with me and it lasted so long the padding dry rotted and fell out. Thought it was time to replace and this one is it.

Forget I am wearing a helmet!
I use this helmet for mountain biking, and it is so comfortable and fits so well, that I almost forget that I am wearing it. It stays in place and doesn't make any noise.
Great Helmet
Great helmet, a little pricey. I got it to replace my 5 year old Xen. Some say it is heavier, I found it to be no heavier and I like the retention better. Especially the ability to move the rear part up or down the back of my head. Overall it is a good value and very comfortable.

Looks Great, Feels Great
Don't believe "tiny helmeters" who say full face is going to be too hot. That's a myth for people who don't know (and I live in Florida where it's ALWAYS hot) It's going to be a bit heavier than a "regular helmet" but much more protection than those silly little things people are wearing at the tour de france.(and on the regular roads everywhere else) Of course it's bigger and if that's what you want, GET IT!

safety doesn't have to suck
i love my bern brentwood helmet. it's totally functional and lightweight and durable and fits on your head in a way that doesn't look stupid. i get a lot of compliments on the way it looks.

the visor thing is cool too. you can either have a detachable mini-visor to help shield sun and rain or take it off.

it's not super cheap but it's well worth the value. and if you're able to find it used or discounted, there's really no excuse not to get it.

Great fit
Bought this to feel a little safer riding my bike. Could easily see it used for many other sports such as; snowboarding, skateboarding, muff diving, rock climbing, or even spelunking!
Very happy with it
I'm really not a big fan of helmets. I think they look a little silly, and no one wants to get their hair messed up. But riding the trails makes it a little risky and just not a bad idea not to wear one. I got this helmet because I thought it looked a little less dumb than others (and I go snowboarding and plan on getting the cold weather insert when I do go). And I am very pleased. That would actually be an understatement... I'm a really hard trail rider and have had more than couple of tumbles, and the brain is still ticking.

Another thing that surprised me was that the visor actually does a really good job keeping the sun out of my eyes. I was actually surprised, because I thought it was more for looks than anything else.

All in all, I love the helmet. I got the flat black and it looks pretty awesome (I don't like to have stuff that stands out). If I ever have future helmet needs, I will definitely go to BERN.

Very good deal for the price
It was a very good surprise. I was worried with components quality, so far we have been riding it in all kinds of roads and trails without any issues.

For an additional $40; I was able to walk away with a beautiful and comfortable piece of equipment that was both securely assembled and tuned to my liking. Compliments galore regarding its suspension and style Another consideration may be investing in a comfort seat unless of course you plan on going completely squirrels off-road. Lifesaver
I just cracked this helmet in half! It literally saved my head from getting cracked open. I went head over handle bars this weekend into a tree and then the hard ground. I will buy another one. I love the fit,feel, and safety of this helmet. would recommend to any mtbr who rides moderate to difficult trails.

Good Looks and Very Comfortable
Compared to the 4 yr old Bell X-Ray this helmet replaced, the Variant is a lot more comfortable. The various pads inside the old X-Ray have now been combined into one large pad in the Variant. This makes for less moving around and easier removal. It also looks good, more of a heavy duty, all-mountain look than a minimal weight cross-country design. I recommend it highly.
Excellent Helmet/Great Fit
The Bell Variant Helmet is one the the best helmet out on the market that I have tried without a price tag going over $60. The interior cushions are very well laid out/stay in place/durable and provide plenty of protection from sweat dripping into your eyes. I've tried the Bell's higher end helmets and it seems that the interior pads/cushion just gets thinner and flimsier as the price goes up. This helmet also has a removable visor for road use, so this is a very universal helmet. I also like the fact the color of the helmet staps that are black compared to the higher end helmets that are grey and show lots of dirt/stains after use. This helmet also has a bottom plastic shell wrap in the bottom that makes it extra durable and more protection yet lightweight. After this review, I planning to get another one just like it for backup..just in case.

Great bike
I purchased this bike in hopes it would hold up to my weight and not destroy my back on the back roads. I live in the country in hilly dirt roads with a lot of bumps. I weight 220lbs and am 6'2". I am by no means fat as I constantly work out. The cheaper bikes I have bought at Walmart and the like would always break, either the frame, wheels or suspension. This one has held up great and I have had no trouble with it. It is hard to find bikes that are build for bigger people and want to do more than ride on the street. I have put more than 100 miles on it with the odometer that I bought seperatly and am completly suprized about how well it holds up.

Great bike, use it every day.
I bought this bike elsewhere on sale. I modified it for commuting, and I bought it for the smooth suspension and dual disk brakes. This one is so much better than my cheaper dual suspension bike. It is very responsive and sucks up the big and little bumps. One star off becasue it is heavy, about 35 pounds. I guess because it is meant to take a pounding. Good value.

better even than I expected
I've been riding for many years, but I'd never bought a pair of "casual" riding shorts before, always figuring that if I was going to need a padded crotch I might as well wear normal cycling shorts. I've discovered however that if I'm riding socially with friends who aren't serious cyclists, it's nice to show up in casual clothing, and if the distance is going to be more than 10 miles or so, it's good to have pads.

As a result, I've been using these shorts once or twice a week since I got them, and I've appreciated them every time. They're comfortable and look normal.

Best Bicycle Shorts I've Found For Long Distance Riding
I bought a pair of these shorts from my local bicycle shop about 12 years ago. I found I needed some padded riding shorts after I began to ride my mountain bike 25 miles on a local bicycle trail. After purchasing my original pair, I was very much releived from the pain of taking that bicycle on long rides.

I've since bought a road bike and a touring bike. I'd been good for 50 mile bicycle rides without padded shorts for years, so the original pair got lost. Well, since I've been training to ride RAGBRAI 2012 and riding distances of anywhere from 60 to 100+ mile days, I found I needed the good ole padded shorts again. I bought 3 pairs of another brand of padded shorts here on Amazon. Haaaa .... what a joke they turned out to be. So, I found my old pair and took them out for 3 consecutive days of 60 mile rides each day. Well, I had to have more of my original shorts. I searched here on Amazon. Low and behold, they carry what I bought 12 years ago. I bought 4 more pairs...
