Not impressed
I have ridden Shimano clipless pedals for the past 13 years, and bought these to replace my trusty but worn prior pair. Despite the 50g increase in pedal wt over the non-platform version, I was excited to get these because I occasionally search for a pedal during jumps if I come unclipped and was hoping that this version would help remedy that. However, I agree with some of the prior reviews: these are really, really hard to get out of. I have been riding a lot of technical trails in NM and CO over the past 10 days with these pedals, and I have had more wrecks during that time than in the past year...largely because I cannot get out of them in time, the right worse than the left. I have them on the easiest setting, and have degreased them and also tried 2 different lubes, as well as no lube (thinking dirt sticking to the coils caused the problem) but no luck. I crashed 3 times today on familiar trails, once I am embarrassed to say on the road because I could not unclip the right and...

1st Clipless Pedals - Should have done this a long time ago!
First time with clipless. I admit I was a bit worried, just turning 46, but an old dog can learn new tricks. Paired with new Shimano AM-45 shoes and SH-56 cleats to allow me to clip out by twisting either direction. XT PD-M785 pedals have easy spring tension adjustments with allen wrench. Cage helps line pedal up without having to look, and would likely allow you to get off the mountain if you lost a cleat, but I would doubt you'd want to do commuter pedaling in flat shoes for very long. It's already WAY easier to get my tires off the ground. When you're my age you'll take every advantage you can get. Can't wait to pass my son on the uphill. Amazon had the best deal around and installation was an absolute breeze with standard metric box wrenches.
nice pedals for the money
Bought these pedals because of positive reviews and i have been pleased with shimano products in general. They were shipped on time and arrived as promise. Price was about half of what local bike stores charged. Have had the pedal for several weeks with only one complaint. They did not want to release very easy even after i had loosened the adjustment as loose as possible. The solution was soaking them in wd-40 overnight and they worked fine ever since.
I would purchase again.
