About Mongoose
Founded in 1974 in a Southern California garage, Mongoose has always been an innovator. From the company's initial cast-magnesium MotoMag wheels to its current crop of BMX, mountain, and pavement bikes, the Mongoose name has been synonymous with bicycle performance. Mongoose builds specifically for riders, which is why the company's BMX designers aren't wasting time watching reruns on ESPN2. Instead, they're constantly testing their new designs at the park, on the track, and on the hill. This continuous experimentation is what drives Mongoose to cook up things like the Front Porch head tube, which lets you fine-tune the handling on Black Diamond series mountain bikes, or Freedrive suspension technology, which eliminates pedal bob and provides a super-efficient full suspension. Mongoose bikes don't just push the limits; they set new ones.

You get what you pay for...
Don't expect a $2000 Mongoose bike that we all love. If you pay $400 or above for a bike what you get is awesome, but if you pay less than that beware that the drive-train and shift components are sub standard. The bike that I ordered did not work well. The front derailleur would only shift if you took your other hand and wiggled the derailleur while you were shifting. The rear derailleur was noisy. The chain skipped like it was 10 years old. I did not want to bother with returning the bike so I just replaced all of the components mentioned above and everything works fine now... trust me.. spend a little more....

Please don't get me wrong... Mongoose (Owned by Pacific Cycle) is an AWESOME company (They definitely have good products for the price). They just can not make a bike for less than $400 and turn a good profit... it's pressure from the consumer to keep lowering the price (Yes I am guilty of that as well :)). The consumer should expect to pay a little more to get a...

not acceptable
I bought this bike as a Christmas present for my grandson. It arrived on time. We assembled the bike and found that a rear derailleur element was bent. Not being sure how to proceed, and not wishing to return it the day before Christmas, I took it to a local bike shop, where the problem was diagnosed and fixed. They also found that the front brake caliper was installed backwards (it arrived that way). The bike shop staff told me that "boxed bikes" frequently arrived damaged. They charged me $25 for the repair -- well worth avoiding the hassle of return and re-assembling another (possibly damaged) bike. Live and learn.
This is a great bike for the money
Wanted to put in a positive review as I love my bike! Hey ya need to know how to adjust it to make it right (handle bars, etc), but the instructions go over all of that. The one I received arrived fast and had no missing or damaged/misaligned parts. Took me 15 min to put it togther. The bike rides super smooth, the suspension really does something, and all the gears work smooth. Nice handle bars and nice scale to all the parts. Not much else to a bike to write about. Way better/smoother than the Mongoose bike it replaced (A DH 1.5, that one was a real POS, but didn't know that till I got this one). Just keep everything lubricated and should last a long while.
