Shimano Ultegra CS-6500 9-speed Cassette, 12-27
Went on very easy and works like a charm as would be expected for the higher end Shimano products. A note for those who learn things visually - if you have not changed a cassette before the written instructions will frustrate you. There are many very good YouTube-like demo films on line that will visually walk you through the process.

Peddling easier
The gears and ratio were great, the only problem encountered was the Locking ring would not fit my tool and had to use my old ring. Seems like they made the teeth on the locking ring too small as I have the correct tool. The guys at the bike shop had the same problem and have all the Park tools.
9 speed is still king
I've always had issues with my 10 speed components, but never with my 9 speed stuff. So when I decided to do a new bike build (Surly Cross Check), I decided to go back to 9 speed. I'm extremely happy with that decision! The bike rocks, and the 9 speed cassette and 9 speed Dura Ace chain are 100% precise, smooth and strong, even with a 10 speed Dura Ace crankset. I installed friction shifters and I've never had a problem shifting or staying in gear. 9 speed cassettes and chains last longer and are cheaper, so how can you go wrong? Now the problem I have is that I'm thinking of going back to 9 speed on my other lighter bike. Friction shifters are loads of fun, so I would just use the 10 speed brifters as brakes.
