Great bike/bad tires!
Overall I am very happy and satisfied with this bike and would highly recommend it. The suspension is tunable and smooth. It really soaks up the rough stuff. Hills and cross country are a breeze. Brakes, and derailers are nice and solid. The saddle is the most comfortable I've ridden. It is a very nice bike at a "medium" price point (although it is the most expensive I have owned) that has held up nicely on some pretty nasty trails.

And now, the bad. The reason this bike got 4 stars instead of 5 is the tires/tubes. First ride out of the gate I popped the front tube. Two rides later, I popped the rear tube. Four or five rides later, the front tire (not tube) ruptured. I always run the recommended air pressure, and just for reference, I've had a higher-end Walmart "Mongoose" dual suspension bike that I've ridden on these same trails for the last 6 years without one tire issue. My son is now riding that bike on these trails with the ORIGINAL tires and original...

Diamondback Did Not Let Me Down
After a hard spill and some broken bones, I gave up biking for several years, but recently decided to start up again. I did my homework and finally decided on the Diamondback Response to help me jump back in. I bought the bike for $400 and it was an excellent price for the quality received. This bike is heavy duty, rugged, and durable. If Rambo rode a bike, it would be this one.

Assembly was much easier than I expected....and Amazon shipped very quickly! Not only is the bike aesthetically pleasing, but most of the parts are adjustable to configure the bike to your like and style of riding. All the parts are high quality....I honestly couldn't find one weak link in the whole design. I tried to put it through hell on my first outing and it didn't even flinch. Diamondback's reputation is secure....they did not let me down!

Ultimately, this bike safe and reliable. I would recommend it to any level rider.

Amazing price for a really solid bike - detailed review below
First a little background. I've been on 2 wheels (sometimes just one) all my life, I started riding long distances when I was younger, I rode BMX for about 10 years and recently getting back into mountain biking. Since I'm one of those that reads reviews before buying, I'll try to be as detailed as possible to help out whomever is reading this

Unboxing:

Obviously, this bike needs assembled. If you've never put a boxed bike together, don't freak out, it's really not that bad. The bike will come with the rear wheel, cranks, stem and handlebars already attached to the bike. You will need to adjust handlebar position, put on the front wheel and pedals (remember, left side pedal goes on opposite thread) the rear brake will need adjusted, the front brake is partially assembled, but you will need to route the cable. On mine, the front and rear derailleurs needed adjusted. If you haven't done this before, you might want to take it to your local bike shop, it can be a...
Great Bike but...
The Good: The bike is great for the money. Rides smooth, well balanced for jumps and carving turns, shifts are instant and authoritative, brakes are great for non-disc, saddle is as expected for a mountain bike, front shocks smoother than super cheapies, all around very happy... after road bikes for the last 10 years, I feel like a kid again jumping off curbs, through dirt trails, sand, etc. I cannot comment on extreme riding and durability of the bike as I'm a suburban rider thus far so for you crazies doing mach 10 down the side of a mountain looking at this bike as an option either; A. your not very smart for putting your life in the hands of a 300 buck bike and you deserve whats coming and/or B. maybe you need to get some help from a bike store professional before bombing face first down Mount Killamenowa.

The Bad (well sort of):
1. The plastic pedals are hilarious...why? and the thumb triggers for shifting cannot be adjusted :(

Great choice for a VALUE bike!
The bike is a great value. Made of 6061 Aluminum, it is both stronger and lighter than bikes made 10 or 15 years ago. The shifting group on the bike is entry level but more than sufficient for this level of bike. The brakes are wonderful, and the tires, although heavy, are quite acceptable. The front shock is pretty much crap but shouldn't cause you trouble (i.e. it is unlikely to break), only extra effort. Overall, though, it is hard to find as much bike as this at this price level. The big brand names cannot touch this bike at this price.

So, should you buy it?

To answer this question, you have to ask yourself, "What do I want out of riding?" There are many valid answers to this question, so think about it. Are you planning on riding the local gravel trail in town? Are you planning on short trips around with the kids? Would you prefer to ride actually two-track trails with roots, stumps, rocks and sand? value ride
The Diamondback Response Sport is a very good value in a hardtail mountain bike as you are getting a relatively high end frame design with mid range components. The modified top tube design is a strengthen design borrowed from higher end Diamondback models and similar to some Specialized bikes.

The only catch is that the shift levers and front caliper are not up to the same quality as the rest of the package. The platform pedals are OK for around town and park trails, but you may want to upgrade them for serious single track riding.

I combined this with a top quality suspension seatpost which I find to be the optimum combination of lighter weight and control with some softening of the roughest bumps. The Diamondback site and some retailers have a more complete description of which frame size is most appropriate for your height. The advantage of buying from Amazon is that you can readily get XS, S or XL frame sizes rather than having to settle for Medium or...
Good Solid Bike!
I just got my D-Back Response Sport 2 days ago. Package arrived 3 days from order using the free shipping, Way to go Amazon!.
Bike was well packaged and was easy to assemble, however the Hayes brake instructions could have been better. Still not that hard to figure out. Only complaint is that the bike came with a Shimano Tourney front derailer and not the listed derailer. It works fine and shifts well so I'm not really dissatisfied. It also came with metal D-back pedals and not the resin pedals some people have replied on before. I'm 270 lbs. and wanted a strong bike, this appears to be just that. Time will tell and I will post follow ups as time goes by.
Seat was a little on the hard side for my big bottom side so i replaced it with a Sunlite Cloud 9 seat that has been a big improvement.

*Note* I got the 18" frame and it is perfect for my 5'10" size.

When a little boy gets too big for a 20" wheeled bike the Octane 24 is the way to go. Nice bike
Bike was delivered with all parts and fairly easy to set up. There were a few scratches and dings but overall everything worked great. My son loves the bike and is easily adapting to using hand breaks.

I canceled my order because I found this bike WAY WAY WAY cheaper on another site (one hundred sixty eight as opposed to two hundred twenty four). I called Amazon and they refused to refund the difference, which is very frustrating. The frame uses a machine formed top tube and a butted and formed down tube sharing tubing from our nicer Sortie series. It uses a sealed cartridge bearing pivot and is built around an optimized single pivot design which is the simplest type of rear suspension because there are few moving parts. It consists of a pivot just above the bottom bracket, slightly up on the down tube and a single swingarm to the rear axle. Being that the rear triangle directly attaches to the rear shock, the shock has a more linear spring rate and offers good small bump compliance. Larger wheels are not the only improvement made to the 2013 Diamondback Recoil Pro 29. We've added a RockShox Monarch R air rear shock to compliment the Rock Shox Recon Silver 29 fork. The Recoil Pro 29er is smooth, solid, quiet, and comfortable. It shifts crisply, brakes precisley, rolls effortlessly, and glides over the rocks and uneven terrain with the 29" wheels and Rock Shox Suspension. Good bike
Shifts good, quiet, looks good, good quality, and just to let you know it comes with out a kick stand which was good for me because most kick stands rattle over rough surfaces.
I use this bike for riding rough back country roads,and it does well.

Great bike!
The instructions are confusing as they cover a multitude of models. Written instructions refer to the illustrations and the illustrations are quite minimal, sub-par in my opinion. Fortunately, I am mechanically inclined so I could muddle through. The bike, however, is fantasic! Looks sharp, rides well, handles all kinds of terran beautifully, including dirt, sand, grass, roots, ruts and muck. The seat feels hard and unforgiving, though, so I purchased a more comfortable one for about $20. I have never mountain biked before, but I took this one out on the trails last weekend, and as far as I can tell, this bike appears to be a good one.

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride it where I like...
Unfortunately I can't. I am sure this will be an excellent bike when I receive all the parts necessary to put it together; but at the moment the threaded post and nut that holds the front wheel onto the fork is MIA. The packaging is very poor and this is probably the reason the part came loose and fell out of one of the box handle holes or something. I paid the extra money for Saturday shipping, which I did receive on Saturday, but now I have an incomplete bike, sitting upside down in my living room (looking quite amazing though) but missing the front wheel on this beautiful Sunday morning; I really was looking forward to taking it out for a spin...

I will update and give this product more stars when I have the quick release skewer that holds the front wheel on. Until that happens, I have to give this product one star.

The Knuckle Box, or bell crank, is the core of our single-pivot four-bar suspension platform. Best full suspension for price.
Gave it five, Im about `5 8 1/2 weigh 210 lb got me a 17in. medium. Took it for a ride on some trails and man, road smooth,and fast, kept up with the more expensive MTBs . Only problem were the pedals its comes with, a little to small.The best thing about this bike, is the suspension,,, work like a champ! I recommend this bike , to anybody looking for a good MTB , but is on a budget.

So far, happy with it...
Bought this for my daughter. This bike retails for $280 at our local bicycle shop. You get it so much cheaper here because there is some assembly required. Don't worry. It's not so bad. The chain and the rear gears and rear tire come assembled, and seem to be adjusted properly. The fork is already inserted as well. What you will have to install yourself are the handlebars, the front tire, the seat, the reflectors, and you will have to properly adjust the brakes (this is probably the hardest part) and install the brake cables to the brake handle on the handlebar, oh, and cut the excess wire once you are done. I can see why the bike shop charges an extra $80. Probably $40 of that is labor, the rest, well, they have to stay in business. But building it is definitely not impossible. You don't really need any special tools. Just the basics. Allen wrench, a socket wrench set is handy to install the front wheel. Wire cutters to trim the excess wire to the brakes. One of the few good 20" wheel bike with gears
My son just turned 6 and and outgrew his Lighting McQueen bike. He is average weight and height and could ride his older brother's 20" single speed. Unfortunately, we have some hilly terrain and he had difficulty going up the hills. We started to look for a 20" bike with gears. Looked at all the larger Toys... and many mart stores. Basically there were not many choices. The $100 range bikes were too heavy for him to handle (over 35 lbs.)because they tended to be full suspension bikes with gears. The lighter 20" bikes with gears at the local bike shops were around $300 with or without a front suspension.

The DB Octane on Amazon was just right and in the middle price range. Our built bike weight is almost 25 lbs. with an optional kick stand and bell. Installation was fun with my son's help and took just a little over an hour. The required tools came with the bike. The only tricky part was the front brake adjustment. Just took some patience trying out different adjustments...
Great bike!
First mountain bike for my 9 year old daughter, excellent choice! And, almost $100 cheaper than the local store. Went together easy, adjustments were few and simple. Gears are easy to change.

Diamondback Cobra Mountain Bike does not come with kick stand
I was not that happy with the fact that this Diamnondback Cobra 24 Jr. Boys Mountain Bike did not come with a kick stand. Now I have to pick the bike up everythime I pass it in my garage. With the money spent you would think that there would be a kick stand .

Gears don't shift smoothly
Not a bad bike for the price. I didn't want to overspend for my 10 year old, so I wasn't expecting super high quality at this price, but the gears are very, very stiff and don't shift smoothly. We're hoping they will loosen up after a few months. Other than that, the bike is okay. It went together easily.

Cute bike
My eight-year-old daughter really loves this bike, but I can't recommend it because it came with a punctured tire (we had to replace at our expense right away so she could ride it on her birthday), and the hand breaks are really not designed for littler hands. We will have to replace them too; she can't use them as they are too tight now.

I would highly recommend not buying this bike online. Let your child try it out for size and ease of use, and ensure all parts are working properly before you are stuck replacing them right away.
