Good crankset with external bearing bottom bracket
I bought this for a project bike about 3 months ago and have taken quite a few rides with it now. I feels solid, shifts smoothly, and it's built well as it should be for Deore level. This replaced a medium level Truvativ set and feels more solid and better shifting.

It's definately a pretty decent deal with the included bottom bracket which is EXTERNAL BEARING by the way (it didn't say when I purchased it) with the standard spacers for 68mm openings. The shell (the cylindrical opening on your bike frame where the bottom bracket goes) on mtb's generally is 68 or 73mm so if your shell width (measured side to side thru the cylinder) is 68mm, you'll need to put the spacers (basically plastic washers) on to bring it to 73mm (typically one spacer on non-drive side and two on the drive side) but it explains all of this in the fairly decent instuctions as well. External bearing is the better option in my opinion because the bearing points have a wider stance that translates to...

Excellent value, smooth shifting.
Bought this to replace the crappy truvativ five D on my commuting bike, wow, what a difference! The front shifting is at least 2-3x smoother than before with no jerking during up-shifting. Almost couldn't feel the shifting action!

Fairly light, about 900 gram, not to mention this crankset looks really cool on the bike as well.

The only downside been the largest chainring is made of aluminum, a few tooth already had wear, and the paint on the largest chainring already chipped during first ride.

***It does not come with chain guard! Only OEM Cranksets sold in bike shops will have chain guardinstalled.
The standard for cranks
I purchased this to replace an old style 3-piece crank with internal bearing bottom bracket that was making a lot of noise. I'm 100% satisfied with the operation of this part; it fit in nicely to a regular 68mm English threaded BB shell, and the operation is smooth and noiseless. External bottom bracket bearings are great, and this design allows you to remove the cranks in the future without a traditional crank puller. No ISIS splines to mess up, no crank bolts to tighten except those that cinch the non-drive side arm down.

I'm using it on my singlespeed - it's a simple matter of removing the OEM chainrings and placing a SS chainring on the middle position, either inboard or outboard, whatever makes sense for the chainline. SS-specific chainring bolts are recommended.

The Deore trim level has the same design and function as XT or XTR, it just weighs a bit more. Being a non-weight weenie I'm good with that, especially for the price, which is an order of...
